Iowa Select Obermueller kicked off the Spring League in dominant fashion, as they tossed a combined no-hitter and scored 13 runs to defeat Iowa Select Nordgren. Cade Obermueller (2022, Iowa City, Iowa) got things started on the bump for his squad. The lefty would pitch to 10 batters in total, striking out eight of them and sitting a free and easy 88-90 mph. Obermueller has a long and lanky frame with plenty of physical projection remaining, and his delivery oozes fluidity and athleticism. His arm action is long and loose and comes through with plenty of speed/whip. The Iowa commit was not afraid to work inside to both left- and right-handed hitters, and his slider showed flashes early of being a true wipeout pitch. Aside from the 90 mph fastball and the nasty slider, another piece that makes him so tough to hit is the angle and deception he creates. He closes himself off on the foot strike and throws from a low three-quarters slot (nearly side arm), which makes the ball extremely hard to pick up early, especially for left-handed hitters. Obermueller has really picked up some steam as of late, and he will be a high draft follow moving forward.
