LATEST PG SHOWCASE REPORT
2006 National Showcase
Kevin Rhoderick is a 2007 right hand pitcher from Horizon HS, residing in Scottsdale, AZ. Rhoderick has an average, compact type build on a frame that was listed at 6'0" 175 lbs. but looked more like 5'10". In any case, whether he is 6'0", 5'10", or 6'2", Rhoderick's stuff and usability of that stuff rates with the top hurlers in the '07 high school class. He was ranked #23 among PG National Top 85 pitchers and was one of the more fun players to watch compete. He pitches from a high 3/4 slot and generates plus arm speed. Rhoderick is a very aggressive pitcher, approaching his outing like he was trying to snuff out the opponent in a deciding game. Whether he pitches in a high school game or summer showcase, Rhoderick seems to approach pitching the same way, like a lion. He has a closer type approach and closer type stuff. His mechanics are pretty simple yet high energy. Rhoderick works out of the stretch and has a two part backside arm action. He is a quick worker and throws a lot of strikes. His fastball touched up to 94 and he sat 90-93 with the fastball. Rhoderick can ride the fastball up and in on RH hitters and overall showed good fastball control. His 77-80 slider has very big break, like a frisbee or whiffle ball action. It is a legitimate put away pitch, particularly if he is not overusing it. Not only is the action on that pitch at times wicked, Rhoderick throws it for strikes, showing the ability to get ahead of hitters with it as well as being able to finish them with it. He also showed that he has some feel of a change-up, which if he continues to develop, has a chance to be an excellent addition to his high energy style of pitching. Rhoderick is clearly a top D1 prospect that will pitch early and contribute heavily as a freshman, if he goes to school. Though he is a sub 6'0" righty, his stuff and bulldog mentality are going to get a lot of attention from the area scouts and being the teammate of another top prospect (RHP Tim Alderson), there are going to be numerous crosscheckers that see Rhoderick this spring.
