Jay Knowles is a 2022 SS/RHP with a 6-0 150 lb. frame from Statesboro, GA who attends Georgia Premier Academy. Medium, athletic frame with square shoulders and a lean, projectable build with room to fill throughout. Primary shortstop, active footwork with standout mobility to actions, showed balance on the charge, big arm strength and carry on throws across diamond, fields it out front, will continue to refine overall actions. Graded out best in the outfield in this look, plenty of twitch to actions, extra step through release, 100 mph with top best throw, easy plus arm strength and lots of explosion in actions, athleticism plays very well. Right-handed hitter, begins with a spread and open stance with a lower hand set pulled back. Short and compact swing path through the zone, stays direct to the ball and generates line drive contact off of the barrel. Bat speed will continue to develop with added strength, contact oriented approach, firm contact coming off when squared. Good student. Verbal commitment to Indiana State.
