FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Brandon Adams was sure to make the most of his only appearance on the mound for NEB National at the 18U BCS National Championship.

“He went out there and did what he’s done for us all summer, throwing strikes and working ahead,” NEB coach Stephen Barnes said postgame.

The North Florida commit proved to be too much for USA Prime Michigan 18U, throwing five shutout innings in his club’s dominant 8-0 win.

Adams threw a consistent high-80s fastball, which struck out six of his seven victims on the day, along with allowing just four hits and one walk over his 75 pitches.

The NEB bats took some time to get hot, not picking up their first hit until the bottom of the third, but that inning proved to be the turning point.

The club went on to bat through their lineup, while also tacking on five runs to extend their lead to 6-0.

Back-to-back walks from Patrick Corley and Davis Germann put runners on first and second with no outs to start things off. After a fielder’s choice in the next at-bat, all Niko Brini needed to do was send a liner to left field to bring in Corley from third. A wild pitch brought Carns in a few pitches later, and Alex Lodise, who will be joining Adams at UNF, drove in Brini from third with a single to left.

College of Central Florida commit Austin Eppley tacked on the final two runs of the inning with two outs, driving in Hayden Perry and Lodise.

Germann led off the bottom of the fifth with a single, and after advancing to third, scored when Brini stepped up to bat and drove in his second run of the game with an RBI single. Needing just one more run to reach the run-rule limit, Lodise’s team-leading third RBI could not have come at a better time to drive in Brini from second.

Currently ranked the No. 22 team in the nation, NEB has been dominant in 2022, posting a 29-1-1 record with multiple tournament wins up to this point. The team is also no stranger to success in Fort Myers, going 7-0 en route to winning the East Memorial Day Classic just last month.

“We’ve won four [Perfect Game] tournaments in a row so we’re looking to build the momentum,” Barnes said. “We’ve got good camaraderie, a good team, we play hard, and we get those strikes, so that’s what it takes to win down here.”
